Flooring Installation

Experienced installers make flooring installation look easy

Type of material influences the complexity of flooring installation. An experienced installer makes any task look easy, including cutting a brittle material like porcelain or matching a carpet design. But more difficult jobs take a longer time to complete. While most floors can be walked on the same day they are installed, others are off-limits to homeowners for a more extended period. Genoa Custom Interiors is a flooring company in Genoa, OH, that boasts a top-notch installation team. Our installers can handle even the most challenging jobs.

Hardwood

Traditional unfinished and prefinished solid hardwood flooring is nailed to a wood subfloor. The on-site installation process can take up to two weeks. Floors finished in the home have a flush look, while factory-finished floors have a beveled look. Engineered wood consists of a hardwood layer and a base plywood layer. Planks connect so a floating floor can be constructed.

Natural stone

As with hardwood, you can have a one-of-a-kind floor if you choose natural stone. Marble, granite, travertine, and limestone are popular quarried stones. Stones are pressed into a mortar and then connected with grout. Likely, a new floor will take two or three days to dry. Since most stones are porous, the floor must be resealed periodically.

Ceramic and porcelain

To install ceramic and porcelain tile, the backer board is placed on top of a wood subfloor. Then, tiles are attached to the backer board with mortar, and gaps between the tiles are filled with grout. Like a natural stone floor, a tile floor takes more than one day to dry. Glass mosaic tile, an alternative to ceramic or porcelain tile, is available on mesh sheets for easier installation.

Laminate and luxury vinyl

Man-made laminate and luxury vinyl planks and tiles mimic natural materials. Laminate has a fiberboard core, so floors are warm underfoot every season. Waterproof luxury vinyl flooring offers maximum durability. Most planks have interlocking edges, so floors float over the subfloor. Some tiles also require no attachment to a subfloor, but others are designed to be glued down.
